Chickens and turkeys live up to ten years in natural conditions; in CAFOs (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations), they have a lifespan of 7 and 16 weeks, respectively. The birds’ severely shortened life spans are due to their being fed a diet so full of growth-promoting drugs that they grow at a rate equivalent of a human reaching 349 pounds by the age of two.
We are in fact eating severely obese baby birds.
